Large Format Camera Workshop
"Landscape Workshop" |
|
Carrying on in the Weston tradition, this
extremely popular workshop is held at the
home of the late Edward Weston at Wildcat Hill, located in beautiful Carmel
Ca. Here Weston created many of his most famous images.
This three-day workshop provides an excellent opportunity for participants
to learn the traditional techniques and craft of large format black and
white photography. Under close supervision, students will photograph with
the large format camera working through all the procedures of making a fine
art photograph. You will learn pre-visualization, film exposure and
development, contact printing, and then mount your print for final
presentation.
Basic knowledge of camera operation is required.
During the workshop we will be taking a close look at the large format
camera. We will be photographing for 2 consecutive days which will give
participants more time to learn about the mechanics of the camera, light and
composition. We will develop the negatives by inspection after the first day
of photographing so we can look at the negatives and see if we need to
improve on anything for the next day. Each student will contact print a
negative of their choosing.
We are extremely excited to be using our Arca Swiss cameras. These
beautifully designed and crafted, lightweight cameras will enhance your
workshop experience. The superior quality of these cameras will make the use
and learning of the large format a much more enjoyable experience.
Come join us for 3 days of artistic adventure! This workshop is for anyone
who has interest in working with the larger camera and for those who simply
want to practice and perfect their skills. All cameras and materials needed
for the workshop are provided; Arca Swiss cameras, film, paper, chemistry,
and mounting supplies. All skill levels are welcomed.
Participants are encouraged to bring a portfolio of their work to share with
the group.
Guests will enjoy a Saturday-night dinner in Edward's home and a fireside
discussion of photography with an invited guest artist.
