Weston and Efros; Scotland Workshop
at Hospitalfield Arbroath, Scotland

Canceled

“Once again we are heading off to Arbroath Scotland. Our last workshop was such a success, not only did I come away with a great body of work, but also great friendships, food and spirit.” - Kim

“Working and staying at Hospitalfield is the experience of a lifetime. I was so impressed by the quality of the photographs that everyone produced during last year’s workshop.” – Randy

American photographers Kim Weston and Randy Efros are returning to Scotland for a third time this summer to teach in the unique surroundings of Hospitalfield House in Arbroath, Scotland.

Co - teaching with Kim is Randy Efros. He is a fine art photographer specializing in both black and white and color mediums. Randy assisted Brett Weston and has taught photography for many years. His work has been shown in many galleries throughout the world. Randy currently resides in Phoenix Arizona. Please visit his site at http://www.randyefros.com

Come to Scotland and take this amazing opportunity to be in a creative environment, working together, exchanging artistic ideas, and working as a team to produce some amazing photographs. With the environment of Hospitalfield being so unique (originally built in the 1400’s) the subject matter is endless ranging from still life, nude figure studies, architecture and landscapes. During the week we will be focusing in on vision, print selection, developing and printing and final presentation. In addition we will get access to photograph in the ruins of Arbroath Abbey. Building of the Abbey started in 1178 and was the richest in Scotland. It is most famous for its association with the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320. The building fell into ruin after the Reformation in 1590. There will be close instructor participation at every step of the way. The end result will be a handsome collection of images all made at Hospitalfield from original thought to finished print.

The workshop cost includes room and board at Hospitalfield. In previous years, Chef Rod Linton has treated us to an unbelievable culinary experience. Breakfast is continental, with lunch and dinner being wonderful Scottish meals, served in an intimate dining gallery. We will provide a professional fine art model for three days. Materials for Platinum printing are also provided.

The location for this workshop is unique. Hospitalfield House is situated on the east coast of Scotland in Arbroath, 50 miles south of Aberdeen and 70 miles north of Edinburgh. The house has enjoyed a unique place in Scotland's architectural and artistic heritage for over two hundred years. The originator of this tradition was Patrick Allan who married Elizabeth Fraser Baker of Hospitalfield in 1843. As an accomplished artist and patron of the arts, Patrick set about transforming Hospitalfield and the house they left "to the promotion of Education in the Arts" in 1890 is testament to their success.

The nearest airport for Hospitalfield is Aberdeen, 55 miles to the north. There are daily links to Aberdeen through the lesser-known airports with the "no frills" airlines. Arbroath is on the east coast main line and can be reached by First Scotrail, GNER or Virgin Trains. Why not use the workshop as a great excuse to holiday in Scotland?
