Kim Weston at Garland Park in Carmel Valley CA

Greetings!

This month has been a busy one for us here on Wildcat Hill. As many of you know we have a new website! I really love the format! It is so easy to navigate around and full of cool things to see. If you see any broken links or errors please send me an email to let me know, so I can fix them right away.

This month I am wearing many hats. Business manager, workshop organizer, website developer, trip planner, and last but not least fundraiser. And did I mention wife, mother, friend, sister and daughter!

One on One Workshops

Kim has taught 2 one on one workshop’s (tutorials) already this year. He enjoys photographing with his students around the house. It is a great way to learn on a more personal and concentrated level. You get the full attention and work on the areas you need most. Email me if you would like to set up a one on one workshop with Kim. Phil and Cler Watkins came from Alabama for a one on one with Kim.

First Workshop of the Season

Our first workshop is "A Day with Kim Weston" on Saturday March 26, 2011 from 9 to 9pm. It is a fun day spent at Wildcat Hill touring the property and viewing original black and white photography by the whole Weston family - Edward, Brett, Kim and maybe even some of Cole's color work. It just depends on what Kim feels like sharing with the group. We spend a couple of hours roaming the beautiful cliffs of Point Lobos and then return to Wildcat Hill for a fireside dinner; that Kim and I will cook for you! After dinner Huntington Witherill will show some of his newest images. We still have some spots open, Sign up now!

One Space Left

We have one space left in our April 1-3, 2011 Wildcat Studio Nude Workshop.

Our San Miguel Workshop and Book Project is starting to fill up. May 12-15, 2011
The Platinum Workshop with Digital Negatives is a great way to use modern digital technology with old classic printing techniques- June 10-12, 2011.

Phoenix Trip

Kim and Zach had a wonderful time in Phoenix AZ with our friend Randy Efros and Rebecca Senf from the Center for Creative Photography. Kim and Randy gave a talk after viewing Brett Weston's show and it was so well attended that they had to move it to a larger venue. The CCP bought 2 of Kim's painted photographs and 2 silver gelatin photographs for their collection! Kim showed his work at a intimate In-Salon gathering, had a concurrent show with Randy and Brett at John Kitts 422 Frame + Gallery (John has made all of our beautiful "Weston Frames") visited the Botanical Gardens and co-taught a Platinum Workshop with Randy for the CCP! Thanks to Randy and Rebecca for hosting Kim and Zach!

Thank you Gin!
Thank you to the Independent Photographers Group, The ImageMakers Group and The Padre Trails Camera Club that came during March for 3 separate lectures and tours of  "Growing up Weston" a fundraiser for the Weston Scholarship. I just bought a new projector screen, the one we had was horrible.

Kim and Zach are going to raft down the Colorado River in April! I will stay at home and enjoy myself – alone. In May we will go to Paris for 2 weeks to photograph with photographer Sylvie Blum! I am so excited about this trip. We will stay 10 days in Paris and then go to Luxembourg to spend time with photographer Michel Medinger. We met Michel many years ago at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel when he had a show there. PHOTOGRAPHY AND DANCE CUT AT MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE

The Governing Board at Monterey Peninsula College voted unanimously on March 8th to pink slip the department heads of Photography, Dance, American Sign Language, Horticulture, Interior design, and 6 others, thereby ending classes in these departments at the end of the Spring 2011 Semester. Notice of the Board’s meeting to vote on these decisions was delivered Friday afternoon March 4th. Despite the short notice, over 350 email letters were sent to the Board and 400 students, teachers and community members attended the meeting to express their dismay. Efforts are underway to propose new budget cutting alternatives to the President to possibly rescind these pink slips and keep these departments alive. Kevin Bransfield, Photography Chair, cefn@sbcglobal.net has been a tireless volunteer with Weston Scholarship Fund. MPC Photography Dept. has been a recipient of donations from Weston Scholarship fundraising due to his efforts. We will keep you informed as this situation develops for suggestions on how you can support the arts at our local college. Responses to MPC President Doug Garrison DGarrison@mpc.edu

PS I BOUGHT A MAC!! YEAH I FINALLY JOINED THE FORCES.
Thank you for buying our work, coming to our workshops, keeping in touch and we hope to see you this upcoming year!

Take care,
Gina, Kim and Zach
