Be the Light Fundraiser - A Benefit for Rachael Short

On November 1, 2010 we awoke the morning after Halloween to find out the Rachael Short had been in a very serious car accident. Rachael is a local Carmel (Big Sur) photographer whom we have become very good friends with these past several years. She is a young photographer with a thriving wedding photography business and she is also a fine art photographer. She has traveled extensively outside of the USA and photographed her way around the world.

We had the pleasure of getting to know Rachael through our workshops where she modeled for us and showed her work as a guest artist at several of our workshops. We also worked with her and Evynn LeValley at their Exposed Gallery when they gave Kim a show in the summer of 2010. Unfortunately Rachael's injuries were pretty severe and she suffered a spinal cord injury and she is in a wheelchair for the time being. This is a quote from Rachael's latest blog entry.

"Love, Life, Light: a series of Polaroid transfers made with the help of Evynn LeValley. This series was started on my 28th birthday when I was backpacking in Pine Valley, Los Padres Forest. The idea was to document my hands every year to show my aging. After my car accident on November 1, 2010, when I suffered a spinal cord injury which left my hands impaired, this series has taken another meaning. My hands are changing monthly, becoming stronger, changing shape. Time (along with hard work and motivation) will tell how much function I will regain. I hope for full function and try not to think otherwise. The mind is a powerful tool." Rachael Short.

Below are some photos from Rachael's Benefit. We raised over $100,000.00!!! Thanks to our crew! Erin Kenyon came to me and said I want to do this in April which was only a few months away - some thought she was out of her mind but with love and help of an amazing community of friends we pulled it off with such great success!!! Cheers to you Rachael and to your recovery. We all love you very much.
