Print of the Month: September 2016

Print of the Month: September 2016

The September POM "In Dali's Shadow" was taken in the famous Salvador Dali Museum in Figueres, Spain. The museum is such an amazing space and we were so lucky to spend a morning there. It was exciting, whimsical and such a privilege to be able to photograph in the museum. We had 4 talented models and we moved from room to room sharing the space with each other. It was challenging to arrive at a location and have a limited amount of time to look and make a photo. The various collections of the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí include all types of works of art: paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings, installations, holograms, stereoscopes, photography, etc. Of them, some 1,500 are on exhibition at the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres. Soberanes Fire, Wildcat Hill Update

Soberanes Fire, Wildcat Hill Update

Well, we have had a hell of a time these past few weeks here at Wildcat Hill! A fire started south of us in the Garrapata State Park on the Soberanes Trail. Some of you know of it and have hiked it many times! Our first scare was that it was going to burn down Cole's house (Kim's father's property) in Garrapata Canyon. We were out of town at a wedding and didn't get home until very late and by that time the driveway was blocked and an evacuation was in progress. A family member drove down and persuaded the personal that was guarding the road to let him in and he was able to retrieve some of our belongings. We sat on pins and needles and then we were lucky that it was spared. Then the fire started coming north and then west. It was so close to the headwaters of Wildcat Canyon! I was totally freaked out. Many of our friends lost their homes in Palo Colorado Canyon. The feeling of loss has been overwhelming and so sad. We are fine out of danger, but the fire is still burning east and south of us and we have good friends in both of these areas.

2016 August POM - Nude on Gaudi Rooftop, Barcelona

2016 August POM - Nude on Gaudi Rooftop, Barcelona

The August POM "Nude on Gaudi Rooftop" was taken on the rooftop of Casa Mila, "La Padrera" in the very early morning. It is probably one of the most famous buildings of the "Catalan Modernisme" or Catalan Art Nouveau period. Today it's a creative space, a cultural center which hosts art exhibitions and connects present and future lines of thought. It's a learning space, where knowledge and learning are keys to the construction of a rich dynamic society. Casa Mila also offers accessible resources and services in its spaces and amenities. Kim and Gina, you were awesome hosts. Learning about the Weston legacy first hand was incredible. I was flattered to be able to show some of my work. Shooting side by side with Kim was inspiring. Gwen was awesome and just nailed each concept. Enjoying a delicious lunch and the conversation was enlightening. I could go on and on about the things I'll remember so fondly.

The bottom line is an expression of heartfelt gratitude for allowing Milan and I into your home and teaching us about the Weston Family Style of photography. We are all a sum of our life experiences. 2016 June POM - Nude in Dali Museum, Figueres

2016 June POM - Nude in Dali Museum, Figueres

The 2016 Nude in Dali Museum was taken in the Dali Museum in Figueres, Spain. The Dalí Theatre and Museum, is a museum of the artist Salvador Dalí in his home town of Figueres, in Catalonia, Spain. Dali is buried there in a crypt below the stage. We spent a morning in Dali's Museum with Migel Soler-Roig and our Spain Photo workshop group. We photographed with 4 amazing models in one of the most interesting creative museums in the world. While we were there we were so amazed and delighted and looking back it seems like a dream. Look at the window in this one room with the figure mimicking Dali's own sculpture. There was so much to take in. It was dark in many of the rooms, which was a challenge for Kim and his film camera. But he managed to create several wonderful iconic photographs on this trip! The Nude in Dali Museum is available until June 30th at the special offer of $300. Here you will also be able to view all of the 2016 Print of the Month photographs that have been offered this year. We hope you will enjoy them.
